Brazil is expected to end the 2023/24 season with record sugar production and exports and account for around 50% of global sweetener trade in the period, as it harvests a large sugarcane crop and directs greater volumes of the raw material to production of the product, estimated this Thursday (31) the consultancy JOB Economic.
JOB projected that the country's sugarcane crushing will grow more than expected in 23/24 to 660.6 million tons, compared to 653.4 million initially seen, with a jump of more than 51 million tons compared to last season, amid favorable weather boosting productivity.
Brazil's sugar exports during the harvest were forecast at a record 32.2 million tons, compared to 29.8 million in the initial forecast and 27.1 million last season, according to the expert. The previous record for shipments occurred in 2020 with 32 million tons.

Brazil will have records for sugar in 2023/24, with 50% of global trade:
Brazilian sugar increases market share in the Middle East:
Data released by Comex Stat indicates revenue of US$6,691.28 billion and a volume of 20,381,251 million tons from the export of sugar and molasses in the period from January to September 2021, which represents an increase of 13.4 % compared to the same period in 2020.
Sugar and molasses represented 3.14% of total Brazilian exports in the period, being 4th in the ranking of total exports and 1st in the ranking of exports from the manufacturing industry.
Middle Eastern countries had large shares in the import of Brazilian sugar. Saudi Arabia imported US$334 million; Iran US$223 million; United Arab Emirates US$ 153 million and Iraq US$ 140 million.

Use of biostimulants and nutrients to increase sugarcane productivity and quality:
The use of biostimulants and nutrients is crucial for enhancing sugarcane productivity and quality in national agriculture. Sugarcane's maturation process significantly influences remuneration by impacting raw material quality. Photosynthesis, stimulated by growth regulators, increases sucrose accumulation, affecting theoretical recoverable sugar (ATR) and cane yield per hectare (TCH). Despite a national average productivity of 73 tons per hectare, sugarcane's genetic potential exceeds 300 tons per hectare. To unlock this potential, nutrient and biostimulant use is crucial for stress mitigation and plant defense enhancement.
Foliar application of nutrients and amino acids during maturation provides benefits such as nutrient supply, increased tolerance to stresses, and reduced leaf senescence. Amino acids, serving as hormone precursors, aid nutrient absorption, and signal enzyme production. Application of multi-nutrient fertilizer and amino acids in early-season canes yielded positive results in the 20/21 and 21/22 harvests, with average gains of 4.7 TCH, 3.5 ATR, and 1.1 TAH. This approach mitigates stress from growth regulators, promoting the photosynthetic process and sucrose synthesis for higher sugar production.
